Like I could really come up with this character all on my own, I have no rights to Bay or Switched at Birth, but so long as people don't get their panties in a bunch RPers aren't hurting anyone.

Personality and Abilities:
Personality: Bay has never fit in, this is the first thing Bay has always realized about herself. Her one truth, she was the outsider in whatever place she was. Her dad and brother were athletic and cheesy, her mom cooked and planned parties. Bay couldn't play a sport to save her life, her cooking regularly lead to fire and biohazards, and she hated parties (especially the things her mother loved about parties). All of which fed the one thing she was truly gifted at: art. At first it was music (like her brother), but eventually Bay drifted away from that to simply enjoying music, and painting to express herself. Every feeling she bottled up (and some of the ones she snarkily or sarcastically contributed) could be expressed on canvas or paper.

Once she found art, and her artistic voice, she started to become more... self-aware. Her style of dress changed, her choice of tunes, her clothes. She found who she was the more she explored herself. She’s nervous, she babbles, she’s more than a bit awkward socially. But on her own, quiet by herself with music, a book, or a sketch pad? She feels more at home. Her parents took exception to her style changes. She clashed with them as the moon clashes with the sun. It made them worry, which made her push harder to be herself. They took these as a sign she was becoming one of those troubled teenagers. But she really wasn't (at first), she was just discovering who she was, and it wasn't who they wanted her to be.

Once the switch was discovered, she grew actively defiant. Before her actions just didn’t agree with her parents, now she actively defied them. Her actions screamed look at me, as their actions screamed ‘we want our real daughter,’ even if that wasn’t their intention. Leading her awkwardness into a full blown insecurity. She’s constantly measuring herself against rivals and perceived rivals, even when it isn’t strictly needed. But it fed her love for the strange and unusual, the artistic and the expressive. So she has this weird mix of picking the least normal thing (clothes, car, art projects) to stand out, to be seen and remembered, and trying her very best to be liked. Which clash horribly as the former often drove people away, and she would try hard at the latter and get nowhere.

Which, along with three parents orbiting Daphne, fed this weird martyr complex. Bay felt for the longest time the world was out to get her. It made her dramatic and feral with her responses, loud vibrant emotions in response to everything. And this was before Ragnarok and the world really was out to get her. Everything is personal with Bay, and Bay’s response is big and loud like her art, her style, her everything. In public she bottles these up but they still waft off her, her poker face is terrible to hide them completely, and in private she explodes (either as it happens, or taking what happened in public back with her to vent it).

She desperately hunted for a way to make sense of her lot in life, a stubborn desire pushing her forward over lines in Daphne’s life that Bay couldn’t stand Daphne crossing in her own. Because in Bay’s mind, even if Daphne didn’t mean to it was her fault. She would push and run wild to try and find answers without any thought to it’s impact... until it had an impact, and she would feel guilty (...eventually). First Bay would obstinately stick to her guns and clash with whatever part of her life was in the way of her desires, then when it gets worse she’d let the guilt seep in. That guilt usually just was another cross Martyr Bay had to carry, and weighed on her and was another emotion she had to process.

Between her search for who she is, and her parents repeated disapproval (especially from her father), it created a perfect storm for Independence. Further fueled by the new secret of her growing ‘weird’ that was her Godly aspect. Barring food and money, Bay keeps her own space, much preferring to leave it to meet others than to have anyone step into it. It felt safer than people walking away from her. More walls to keep people out, which leaves her with a very small social circle, mostly because of how awkward she can be. Plus she grows so weary of lying, she can do it but she hates it. First there was the switch, it was easier to pretend it didn’t exist than to let it define her. Then her powers, which were so hard to understand, she wanted to know what they were before she let in too many people. She’s used to it, the lying, but at the same time she hates it. She hates herself for relying on it.

Overall that leaves her a stubborn, snarky, moody, vibrant, confused teenage Goddess who didn’t ask for any of this, and kind of hates herself when she lies or enjoys any part of this complicated life.

Godly Abilities: Her ability to cast illusions is roughly intact, tied with Bay’s natural creativity. From completely fantastic, to the ordinary and mundane she can manage that. In a pinch she can kill monsters with a touch, but it’s excessively draining. She’ll be lucky if she can stand afterwards.

The rest of her powers are lost for the moment.

Timeline and Links
AU History: Bay’s life, started out... well, her life wasn’t her’s. At under a old Daphne Vasquez and Bay Kennish were misplaced, each going home with the other family. And this little complication moved her on the path to where she is now, even if nobody knew it at the time. A French-Italian-Puerto Rican girl raised in the family of a rich all American right-wing former baseball player. She grew up ‘off’ from the rest of the world, out of place wherever she went. As a child it was less obvious, the voices were less noticeable. But as she became artistic and dramatic, at odds with the cheesy athletic nature of her family, those around them spoke more about the idea Bay wasn’t John and Katherine’s child. The usual thought is that she was the result of an affair. Bay was too young to know the full impact of these rumors. At least, at first.

By the time Bay turned fifteen she was completely separated from her family on a social level. Their rules, their life, it wasn’t her, she felt wrong. She would sneak out at night to tag street corners, street art became her favored release from all her stress. She didn’t fit in at her school, between the rumors of her parentage and her new anti-authority attitude. She was doing poorly in any academic subject, her brother shared an amicable non-aggression treaty. They would help each other, they were friends, but at school they were complete strangers. It was around this point the first event changed her life, a simple blood typing assignment at school, which outed the first change, the switch.

The next event to change Bay’s life happened six months after the blood typing assignment; she met Daphne Vasquez. The life Bay should have had, the girl who called Bay's real mother 'mom' and lived in the less posh side of town. A deaf basketball player and master chef who was the perfect blending of the Kennish parents in every way. Bay had to learn a whole new life, new family, and put this into line with who she grew up as. Finding out every whisper about you not belonging was right, that your name isn’t even yours, it puts you through a lot. This sparked friction with her parents, her grandmother taking more of a shine to Daphne and pushing Bay away. Bay in turn found new friends from Daphne's life and tried to just find a way to explore who she should have been. Still feeling out of place in both worlds.

The next year Bay's life was a mess of incidents, but they were all mundane incidents and the mist hiding the truth of the world from her eyes a little longer. Dating Ty (who was older and heading for the military), dating Emmett after (Daphne's best friend), then hanging out with a street rat named Zara who also did street art. Each choice made for more divides with her parents, until finally they came to terms with each other. Bay tried to refocus on school and set her life on the right path... which showed how alien she was at her school, as the idea she could do well in class lead to a peer review of her academic ability. The idea she could study and learn was so impossible for them to believe she quit her school to go to Daphne's school: The Carlton school for the Deaf. Where she was still an outcast of a new sort, but it did seem to slowly get better.

Until things got weird. And this time I mean the really weird sort of thing. When Bay's imagination roamed freely things started... appearing. First she thought she was just losing her mind, but then other people saw them, and then she realized she was doing it. Once she figured out she was the one making them she did her best to control these illusions of her's. She only told three people: Daphne, Emmett (her ex boyfriend), and Toby (her brother). Summer came along and a bit of a divide happened, Bay had a fight with her parents (the Kennishes) and moved in with her bio-mom, who in turn was fighting with Daphne who was staying with, you guessed it, the Kennishes. She kept the whole power of illusion thing under wraps still, and with her usual confidants away she just... practiced in secret. She got a job at a tacky theme park, reconnected with Ty (her ex from paragraphs ago) and it was... smooth sailing. Until a snake lady tried to kill her, and Ty had to save her.

Or tried, Dracanae are a bit much for a mere mortal to handle, even one in the military and as rough as Ty is. Bay shoved the thing away from him and... blacked out. She and Ty got back together after that, and Bay did her best to put this out of her mind, and enjoy her summer break. She found a rhythm to her life, which meant, as with Bay's life, a new wrinkle had to present itself. Hera, Greek Goddess of Family, informing Bay she was more than mortal.

She had gained the soul of Hel, Norse (why the heck was a Greek Goddess informing her about a Norse Goddess anyway?) Goddess of the Underworld. A god exiled from home due to parentage, and never found a place to fit in. Constantly an outsider wherever she went. This sounded pathetically familiar to Bay. But... if monsters would keep attacking, she would need to go someplace safe. She finally came clean on this with all four of her parents, which lead to another fight between them over what Bay did about it. ...and another fight when it came out she and Ty have been having sex. Until with a flashy use of her powers of illusion she got their attention.

She had decided, she was going, and that was final. She packed her car, and headed for New York...
